How was the NutriSystem
program started?
The Nutritsystem plan was created over 30 years ago. It was the
first structured weight loss program of its kind. At that time,
they operated from both company-owned and franchised weight loss
centers located throughout the country. In 1997, NutriSystem began
a pilot program to see if people were interested in having the product
shipped directly to their door. Beginning in 1999 they began to
offer there program through the internet.
How does the NutriSystem
program work?
The Nutrisystem plan is a prepackaged meal replacements plan that
is based upon the Glycemic index. The Glycemic Index measures the
quality of carbohydrates and how they effect your blood sugar. Simply
put, carbohydrates that break down slowly encourage stable blood
sugar levels. These are rate well or "low" on the Glycemic Index.
Those that break down too quickly can cause your insulin levels
to quickly rise and your body to store fat. These are rated high
on the Glycemic Index. This system features prepackaged low Glycemic
Index foods and the right amounts of protein to help keep your blood
sugar levels stable and your metabolism burning strong, so you burn
more fat. This diet is about 60% carbohydrates, 20% protein, and
20% fat. You eat five times a day and always get optimum health
and nutrition with every meal. The Nutrisystem provides additional
programs to get people into proper health programs other than just
eating correctly . These plans are to help you with exercise advise
and nutritional advise to assist in your learning process. Like
many of the other popular diet programs they offer one-on-one counseling
to help you along.
What
are the Pro's of the NutriSystem diet?
To start off on the positives, there is no fee to join this program.
The prepackaged foods provide a balanced diet that make following
the meal plan simple and easy to do. The foods are shipped directly
to the customer. They also offer on-line counseling and support
to help you along. In addition to helping people with eating right,
they also offer exercise advice that people find useful.
What are the Con's
of the NutriSystem diet?
Although the initial sign up is free the costs quickly rise. To
sign up for a individual plan they asses a fee. The prepackaged
food that is purchased is supposed to be combined with additional
fruits and vegetables that are purchased separately. They also add
fees to purchase herbal products and anything out of there conventional
food items. Eating out also presents a problem when people must
depend on prepackaged foods to maintain the program.
