The Jenny Craig Program has been available for over 20 years. It was established by a woman from New Orleans in1983 by the name of Jenny Craig. It is now the 2nd largest commercial weight loss chain in the U.S.
 

How does the Jenny Craig program work?

The Jenny Craig plan is based on pre-developed plans modified to fit each individual. The meals and programs are created by Registered Dietitians in consultation with an expert Medical Advisory Board that recommends the latest developments in nutrition, exercise and behavioral changes for successful weight management. Their weight loss facilities offer several programs for people to choose from. They range from a trial program through their platinum program. People can go from the trial into either the gold program for short term weight loss goals, or into the platinum program for long term weight loss goals. The one thing that is included with all their programs are planned and personalized meals. The nutritional composition of jenny craig’s traditional menus call for 50%-60% of calories from carbohydrates, 20%-30% from protein and 20% from fat. People can choose either pre-planned weekly menus, or craft their own "Ultimate Choice" menus in line with their personal tastes or needs. The focus of their programs is to help teach you how to eat the foods you want, increase your energy level through simple activity, and build more balance into your life for optimal weight loss and well-being. They also offer consultations along with many other helpful tools to guide people through their journey.
 

What are the Pro's of the Jenny Craig plan?

The strongest asset of this program is the network of assistance they provide to their clients. They provide one-on-one consultations from your home, on-line assistance, and many materials to guide people to their weight loss goals. Another potential positive aspect of this service is the pre-packaged meals. They make for easy choices on what to eat and easy to cook.
 

What are the Con's of the Jenny Craig plan?

Clients may find it difficult to stay with this program when they go on their own. Some find it difficult to stick to pre-packaged meals. The pre-packaged meals may become too costly or just plain boring. Going out for dinner is also a difficult thing for people to deal with because you now have to figure exactly what is appropriate and what is not. The last negative that we will mention is the overall cost of the program. It can cost as much as $400 to get started along with consultation fees and continuing to purchase meals pre-packaged.
